- Following consultation, the previous government announced that it intended to introduce a voluntary standard for customs intermediaries. It intended, in collaboration with industry, to work with the British Standards Institution to develop a standard suitable for certification.
- This consultation followed on from the 2022 Call for Evidence: An Independent Customs Regime and the measures complement wider transformational changes at the border that the previous government had committed to delivering as set out in the 2025 Border Strategy.
- Timing: the consultation closed on 30 August 2023. The previous government issued a summary of responses on 7 December 2023, stating that work would continue on developing a standard, in consultation with industry and standard-setting bodies. It is not yet clear how the current government intends to take this forward.
