- The government, in collaboration with industry, will work with the British Standards Institution to develop a standard suitable for certification.
- This consultation followed on from the 2022 Call for Evidence: An Independent Customs Regime and the measures complement wider transformational changes at the border that the government has committed to delivering as set out in the 2025 Border Strategy.
- Timing: the consultation closed on 30 August 2023 and the government issued a summary of responses on 7 December 2023. Work on the standard will commence in spring 2024.
